Radar detectors have advanced significantly since they were first invented. The top of the line auto radar detector today would almost be unrecognizable when compared alongside the original models from the ‘80s. An auto radar detector can be a very useful device, saving the owner time and money in the long run and do so without ruining the look of your car.

An auto radar detector has many features and can be programmed in several ways, depending on your needs and what you are using the auto radar detector for. The type of auto radar detector you want or desire will take some research, time, and several shopping trips to consider models and prices before you can come to a conclusion.

Automated Radar Detector Features

There are several features that can be automated on a radar detector. An auto radar detector can be set to automatically detect and disregard certain signals especially if you are in town. Some radar detectors will be too sensitive while in a city, and indicate there is radar close by, even if it’s only a garage door opening or a grocery store door. An auto radar detector can automatically adjust its settings so that it is not as sensitive to certain frequencies while in urban settings.

An auto radar detector can also be adjusted in regards to certain features. An auto radar detector can be set to beep or signal when it discovers a radar frequency and then it will make a series of clicks or flashing lights as long as it can still ‘hear’ the radar frequency. The default setting on most radar detectors is a series of continual beeps or other obnoxious noises until it is out of range. The ability to change this may save your sanity since the constant clicking and beeping can be nerve-wracking during a long drive.

An auto radar detector has features that can be automated. Many radar detectors have lots of bells and whistles and optional equipment that you may never use. These features can increase the price, yet they may not be something you want or even need. Take your time, do your research, and find the radar detector that is right for you and perhaps more importantly, your budget.

One word of caution: radar detectors are not legal in all states. You can receive a ticket at the very least for having one in your car in some areas, so know your state laws before you buy a radar detector and you will be fine.
